DUE, What is the quietest, most secluded place to study for finals on campus? I usually use the Olin stacks or Willard Fiske room in Uris Library, but they’re both pretty crowded.

Dear Student,

Many classrooms throughout campus are open and empty for studying, especially on the Arts Quad, like Goldwin Smith.  It is possible that the same is true for the Ag Quad...

Try some of the rooms in Willard Straight Hall.  The further up you go the quieter they get...  International Lounge, Music Room, 5th Floor Lounge, North Room or one of the three Lofts on the 6th floor!  And I think that the building is open late for those of you who want/need to study tlate.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Question 2 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Dear Uncle Ezra,

I am intimidated about approaching professors. They all seem too smart, I fear they know something about me that I don't know, and it seems that I can never prepare enough to be accepted in their eyes. How do you get near them without losing a finger or a head?

Dear Nervous,

Being intimidated by your professors is natural; they're incredibly knowledgeable and great in their respective fields of study, so of course it may be a little nerve racking to approach them at times. But you have to remember this: they became professors because they have a passion for teaching people like YOU (the students). Professors want to teach you, but they also want to get to know you and learn from you. After all this university has a tendency to produce some of the future's finest industry leaders (which can probably be intimidating for them, if you think about it)!

If you walk in to their office prepared with the questions/topics you need to discuss, I they will be more than happy to sit down and have a conversation with you. In fact, I have often overheard professors saying that look forward to talking with students during offfice hours and are disappointed when no one show up!

Dear Uncle Ezra,

I apologize for the fact that my question is probably asked a lot; however, I seem unable to find it in the archives. I applied early decision for fall 2012 and I am really anxious to hear back. When are the early decision admissions notifications coming out?

Thank You, From: anxious awaiter :O

Dear Awaiting,

For the very latest info about early decision to Cornell see yesterday’s post on the admissions news site: http://admissions.cornell.edu/news/early-decision-notification.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Question 5 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Do you know if there's a list with the number of people in each major and degree program? I recently heard of something called an MPS in Real Estate in the College of AAP. After 4 years here, I thought I had heard about all the pretty small programs! So it sparked my curiosity to see if there is a list of the number of people in each major and program. I remember reading that biology (awarding a B.S. or B.A.?) was the most common major but what about the less common ones like a Masters in ILR or Hospitality?

Curious

Dear Inquisitive,

After doing some in-depth snooping it seems that the university only has information all the available majors and minors at Cornell; however, there is no information on the number of students per program. You can find all the majors and minors listed on this website: http://www.cornell.edu/academics/majors.cfm.

Dear Uncle Ezra

Last year (February 2010) you reported that Cornell replica basketball jerseys would soon be available to buy at the Cornell Store. Do you have an update on when this will be? I can't find anything online.

Thanks

Tom

Dear Tom,

After inquiring with some of the staff at the Cornell Store, it seems that these basketball jerseys were never made. Unfortunately, the store does not have any future plans on proceeding to make such jerseys.

DUE,

Are there any places on campus where students can watch cable TV? i.e. lounges, recreation/student-union centers, and/or West campus?

I think there are some in the Sage Hall basement, but can you name a few others?

Thank you, sir!

Dear TV Fiend,

There are a few places that you will definitely be able to find cable television. These are the ones I am aware of: RPCC in North Campus, the lounges at Noyes, as well as all of the West Campus Houses. Unfortunately, some of the television lounges on West Campus are only accessible by the students who live in those dorms.

My son attends Cornell. Can he use his Cornell Card to pay a Gannett Health Services bill?

Thank you.

Dear Cornell Parent,

Gannett does not accept the Cornell Card as a form of payment; however, your son is able to bursar the payment if he wishes to do so. He will just need to provide his ID card at the cash payment desk and let them know that he would like to pay through the bursar account.

Dear Uncle Ezra,

Why does the engineering library have the newest Adobe Design Suite when the Fine Arts library has nothing? We are the ones who actually design things that aren't bridges.

Dear Confused, It seems that the engineering library does not in fact have the complete, newest 5.5 version of Adobe Creative Suite; however, if you go on this website http://mapping.cit.cornell.edu/publiclabs/map/index.cfm you will be able to locate your desired software throughout the whole campus. This CIT website allows you to navigate through libraries and computer labs on campus by the software that you need. Hope this helps!

Dera Uncle Ezra,

How do I update my employment/address information as a Cornell alum?

Dear Need-An-Update,

To input this information you'll need to go to cornellconnect.cornell.edu and activate an account with Cornell Connect using your netID. You can also call the Cornell Alumni office directly at 607-254-6138 and they can change the address manually.
