Dear Uncle Ezra,
Why is Uris hall so ugly? It's all black on the outside and underneath the sides of the building are these large, unsightly rust stains marking up the concrete. Who designed the building? Why did they use those steel beams to build it if they knew that it would rust, turn black, and basically look so ugly?

                                         SAUH (Students Against Uris Hall)

Dear Students against Uris (careful...don't get dirty),
The story goes something like this:   There were these two Cornell graduates, named Harold and Percy Uris.  They made a lot of money.  They wanted a building named after themselves.  Therefore, they got to decide what kind of building it would be.  They had both visited Pittsburgh and seen the U.S. Steel building, which was made out "cortan steel".  This steel reacts with the environment to produce a lovely orange-red hue (not rust).  They said, "What a pretty building. Our building at Cornell should look just like that."  So they instructed the achitects to construct Uris Hall with cortan steel.  All of the experts said that within seven years, the steel would react with the environment and the building would be a lovely orange color.  However, they didn't take into account the fact that Pittsburgh's air quality and Ithaca's air quality are quite different.  We don't have all of the sulfuric pollutants in the air that Pittsburgh does.  This is great for breathing, but bad for reacting with cortan steel.  So, after fifteen years, all that we have is a building that is covered in rust.  But rest assured that the rust has done no structural damage to the building.

Dear Uncle,
I was wondering if you could do me a big favor-could you please compile a list of your "greatests hits",  it would really expedite my searching through all the boring stuff to get to your best material. Perhaps you could arrange your material by topic rather than by date.

Dear Unc,
The Adams Family house is rumoured to be in Hamilton, NY, or perhaps it is one of those myths that perpetuates itself on many college campuses.

                                        Ear to the Ground

Dear Ear,
It may be that every town with fine Victorian architecture has its own "Adams House."  Perhaps that's part of the reason for the show's success.

Dear Fan,
If you want to avoid the middle man (that is, me) with CUINFO-related questions and comments, the person to contact is Steve Worona (SLW@CORELLA). Steve tells me that the people responsible for posting the prelim schedules have been informed that their tardiness is causing some consternation.
Thanks for being observent and patient.
