uncle ezra, i love to come to Uris or Olin to be able to keep up to date on your advice and
reader's letters. however, for the past few weeks, i've noticed that either 1
or 2 of the cuinfo monitors have been "out of order". now, i'm beginning to
think that there is somebody who is deliberately sabotaging the monitors so
that they are unable to work. am i being paranoid or what? Readers? i myself
saw someone walk up to the monitor in uris and brush away a "outoforder" sign
and with my own eyes call up cuinfo!! when he was apparently finished, the
ingrate actually erased all evidence of cuinfo operational, which needless to
say, i was waiting to utilize and was angered to see it nonfunctional.
missing u
Dear Missing, The public CUINFO terminals do seem to be out of service a lot lately, but
the problems appeared to be electrical and mechanical. If readers are con-
vinced that carelessness or maliciousness is involved, please let me know. UE Uncle Ezra - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Question 2 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Dear Uncle Ezra, I have had some trouble reaching you from off campus lately. Is there any
better way than calling 255-4141? What kind of terminal should my computer
emulate? Compu-phoner
Dear Compu-Phoner, According to the information under CUINFO COMPUTING CCS DIALPROB, there are
several numbers to try:
255-4141, 255-8292, 255-7381, 255-7329, 255-7208, and
255-8175. I suggest that you read the rest of that item, and also CCS Bulletin
#617. For help on what terminal to emulate, see the CCS consultants in G26

dear unc, i am an extramural student and am in debt, i only qualify for a gsl loan
where can i obtain emergency loan funds?
flat broke
Dear Flat Broke, It's hard to give you direct advice without more information.
The Financial Aid office could make an emergency loan, but it is usually
charged against money they expect to come in such as the gsl. So if you
have not as yet received your gsl for this semester, you may be able to
obtain an emergency loan from the Financial Aid office if you appear to
be a good credit risk. When your gsl gets in, your loan will be paid
with that. If you have already received your gsl check, then you can't
get a short term loan from them. Another place you may want to try is the bank. However, before you
do that, you should talk to your extramural advisor. I've been told that
they may be able to help you, but they need more specific information
than I could give. Also, you may want to talk to your financial aid
counselor. You can make an appointment with them by visiting or calling
the Fincancial Aid office, 203 Day Hall, 255-5145. They are more
qualified to help you at this point, especially since they would have
your record and can tell you exactly what steps you can take, whereas I
can only get very general information on it. Good luck. Uncle Ezra - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Question 5 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Dear Uncle Ezra, I want a copy of the Campus Code of Conduct and the Statement of Student
Rights. I also want a list of the cases reviewed by the Hearing Board, as well
as those which have gone on to the Review Board. I would further like to know
what the change was in the Campus Code of Conduct (or footnote, as it has been
officially termed) regarding student rights. Lastly, I want to know the legal
background of the case on the divestment issue.
I've Got a Little List
Dear Shopper, You want to talk with a lawyer more than Uncle Ezra. The Campus Code of
Conduct and the Statement of Student Rights are currently being reviewed by the
University Assembly. Cris Gardner, 165 Day Hall, 255-3716, can give you a
contact person on that committee. For cases reviewed by the Hearing Board and
Review Board, you want to see Tom McCormick, the Judicial Administrator, 431
Day Hall, 255-4680. And you want to talk with someone from the University
Counsel's Office, 500 Day Hall, 255-5124 for the legal background on the
divestment issue. Uncle Ezra |
